Modules

Establish why storytelling matters in leadership and innovation, and what makes messages memorable.

Key Concepts / Ideas

  • Storytelling as a tool for clarity, alignment and influence.
  • Why stories stick: emotion, structure, relevance and meaning.
  • The three-act structure: beginning, middle, end as a simple scaffold.
  • Dramatic tension: the pull between what is and what could be.
  • The process for this course: Blueprint → Story Prototype → Design for Impact → Share & Refine.

Activity

Choose Your Story: Participants select one of 5 story prompts (or create their own) to work on throughout the session.

Define your audience and clarify the big idea that anchors your narrative

Key Concepts / Ideas

  • Know your audience: motivations, concerns, expectations.
  • A strong story is anchored by one clear big idea.
  • Clarify the intended shift: what you want the audience to think, feel or do.

Tools

  • Empathy Map (who they are / what they care about / what they need to
    know–feel–do)
  • Big Idea statement.
  • From-To shift (current state → desired state)

Activity

  • Map a real audience using the Empathy Map.
  • Craft a single-sentence Big Idea.
  • Define your desired From–To shift.

Build to think by making one idea tangible quickly.

Key Concepts / Ideas

  • Prototypes stories early and roughly to test clarity.
  • Start with structure, then layer in detail.
  • Choose the format that fits the communication moment.

Tools

  • Simple Story Structure (e.g. Story Spine, Before–After–Bridge, or 3-act).
  • Supporting Points (key examples, data and moments that reinforce the Big Idea).
  • Feedback Canvas (what landed, what didn’t, what it means, what to change).

Activity

  • Draft a rough story using the simple structure plus 2–3 supporting points.
  • Share the prototype and capture feedback using the Feedback Canvas.
  • Refine the story based on patterns in the feedback.

Engage and inspire through intentional choices in tone, style and timing.

Key Concepts / Ideas

  • Design how the story feels, not just what it says.
  • Balance logic, credibility and emotion for influence.
  • Plan specific moments that create connection and movement.

Tools

  •    Tips for Story Impact such as:

○ Make it personal

○ Get emotional

○ Include a clear call to action

○ Stay inspired (keep evolving the story)

Activity

  • Review your story and mark where ethos, pathos and logos show up — and where they’re missing.
  • Apply the tips for impact to tweak language, examples and visuals.

Communicate the concept, key learnings, the decision and next steps.

Key Concepts / Ideas

  • Tell the journey clearly: Ideate → Prototype→ Learning→ Decision.
  • Show what you made and what it revealed.
  • Make the next steps explicit.

Tools

  • 4Cs Story Structures adapted for this course:

         ○ Context – user + opportunity.

         ○ Conflict – assumptions or questions you explored.

         ○ Climax – what you prototyped + what you learned.

         ○ Closure – decision + next steps.

Activity

  • Build a short 4Cs story showing the progression from idea to action.
  • Present a 3-minute “From Ideas to Action” story.
  • Peer feedback
